Lujiazui Pedestrian Bridge, Pudong District, Shanghai, China

Traffic circles may do their part to clear congested streets, but what about congested sidewalks. The newly finished Lujiazui Pedestrian Bridge in the Pudong district of Shanghai forms an elevated public space where those on foot can stroll along a circular high line, far above the noise and commotion of city traffic. The raised walkway, or “flyover” has also become quite the tourist attraction, inspiring photographer Viktor Lakics to capture these awesome aerial views.
Pudong is Shanghai’s latest financial district. The land, which was sprinkled with farms only a decade and half ago, is now covered in sleek skyscrapers and mega shopping complexes. The Lujiazui Bridge connects financiers to leisure areas such as shops and cafes situated across the seemingly interminable expanse of the giant roadway. The bridge sits almost 20 feet above the street, with numerous escalator stairway entrances and exits. Visitors enjoy the walkway for its privileged views of the city as well as its introduction of clean and easy foot transportation.
